now & soon

In the summer semester of 2026, Juli will be standing in for Prof. Daniel Utz with a seminar on the topic of visual thinking’ in the master’s programme strategic design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung (University of Design) in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. The subject of this seminar will be pictographic communication. Specifically, it will involve translating package inserts for various medicines into tuqtuli. The resulting works will be exhibited in the summer as a WDC campus project at the Museum Angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Arts) in Frankfurt.

Frankfurt am Main is this year’s World Design Capital 2026, WDC. As part of this, Juli has been invited to host a dialogue workshop at the Museum Angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Arts) on 6 May 2026 and to set up a WDC campus project in the run-up to this event. The tuqtuli project is definitely a perfect fit for their motto design for democracy’.

Meanwhile, phase 1 of the ibuproject has been completed. In this phase of tuqtuli’s first interdisciplinary, and international cooperation, the focus was on preliminary, sketchy approaches. You can see the first sketchy approaches here (the PDF is very large and may take a moment to load). The core team consists of Karel (Belgium), Mandar (India), and Juli (Germany). We seek to develop pictographic instructions for a simple painkiller, Ibuprofen.

Recently, Juli presented the Ibuproject for the first time at the monthly meetings of Pharmacists for Future. There was a lot of interest! You can watch the talk here (in German).

One of the ibuproject team members, Alicia Link, has joined tuqtuli as a temporary team member. \o/ She is currently working on a book edition of the results of phase 1 of the Ibuproject. You will be able to order this documentation via this website.

Recently, another ibuproject member Adam Yeo, assistant professor of graphic design, and lecturer-researcher at the University of Bondoukou, Côte d’Ivoire, also had his students translate the medical instructions for ibuprofen into tuqtuli!

On 17 March at 11 a.m. MET, Juli will be appearing on Kathrin Kunze’s MedTalk podcast to talk about the tuqtuli project. Join us live! On 14 April at the same time she will present the ibuproject.
