# the milulayu project

   is a sibling of the [ibuproject](https://tuqtuli.com/the-ibuproject), initiated by [Dr Tobias Gantner](https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-tobias-daniel-gantner/?locale=de) and [Juli](https://tuqtuli.com/who-initiated-tuqtuli).

Tobias is a doctor, lawyer, economist and philosopher. He teaches Digital Health at [Kolping Hochschule](https://www.kolping-hochschule.de/studiengaenge/digital-health) (Kolping University) in Cologne, Germany. He is also the founder of [HealthCare Futurists](https://healthcarefuturists.com), an international network and think tank at the intersection of technology and society. This includes the eHealthium innovation lab in Siegburg, south of Cologne.

The milulayu project aims to translate the instructions for nine further medicines into tuqtuli: a laxative, a cream for skin inflammation, tooth gel, eye drops, a nasal spray, suppositories, nicotine patches, an antibiotic and insulin. We selected these based on the following criteria. Firstly, they should be widely known. Secondly, they should be taken or used in various different ways. We reduced the extensive accompanying texts to essential information and rewrote them in plain language. Then Juli had students on the master’s programme in Strategic Design at the [Hoch­schu­le für Gestal­tung Schwä­bisch Gmünd](https://www.hfg-gmuend.de/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23083599074&gbraid=0AAAAAC7DbN0mRY37IcqZlREhtGjJwPXml&gclid=Cj0KCQiA1JLLBhCDARIsAAVfy7izTjdWbAA067bKg8RwPoLrY2pABP9_bPVU_YUPa1OzwjN9jKZ5VGAaAi-5EALw_wcB) (University of Design) translate these into signs. During the seminar, the students could draw on the expertise of ibuproject member and pharmacologist [Muna Kha­lil](https://www.linkedin.com/in/munakhalil/) and discuss the matter with students of linguistics professor [Bet­ti­na Bock](https://idsl2.phil-fak.uni-koeln.de/institut/personen/lehrendenseiten/prof-dr-bettina-m-bock) at the University of Cologne, Germany.

The resulting works are now being exhibited at various venues. At the same time, this seminar was a World Design Capital Campus project. In July, the students’ tuqtuli translations will form part of the WDC Campus exhibition at the [Muse­um Ange­wand­te Kunst](https://www.museumangewandtekunst.de/) (Museum of Applied Arts) in Frankfurt, Germany. Further exhibition venues are to follow, including the eHealthium in Siegburg, Germany.

During the winter semester, Juli will work with students of the international Master’s programme »Integrated Design« (MAID), a department within the Institute of Design at the [Bauhaus University](https://www.hs-anhalt.de/en/start-page.html) Dessau, to continue the work on the milulayu project.
